Happy Mother's Day!
Today is a special day for mothers and their families. This day is celebrated by many and countless of quiet reflections of joy, loss, happiness and grief enter and exit through the minds of the people of God.
"A Gift of Memoirs To My Living Mother," would be an intentional read on a day like Mother's Day. Inside this thin book, you will find a reflection describing "gifts" as a love language to a niece from a great-aunt, a memory reflecting on the tasty benefits of coin-operated laundry facilities and a letter urging readers towards the ministry of reconciliation.
I composed the stories to first be released as an audio book in January 2018 while I was preparing to move-out of my one-bedroom tower apartment that featured a wrap-around balcony from the bedroom to the living room. I was working as a student leasing agent in the summer of 2017 and then as an office administrative assistant later that year, at a property that gloriously leased nearly 750 units in the Chicagoland area. After receiving a letter in December 2017 that demanded I no longer perform licensed activity, I new my time was coming to an end in this beautiful, but temporary home of mine.
As I sat there listening to the words of the property manager for the reason I could no longer remain, I felt confused, empty and hurt. I immediately thought of my belongings and how I was going to pack my items during the remaining twenty-nine days. You see, I recall signing an agreement that shared how I must vacate the apartment I was leasing within thirty days of discontinued employment. It was during this time that I authored and even recorded the audio album of "A Gift of Memoirs To My Living Mother". The freedom I experienced from no-longer having a day job gave me room to think and write creatively.
